Before diving into what unites us, I thought it was important to share where I’m coming from and why this topic matters—to both you and me.
In a world that feels more divided than ever, it’s worth taking a step back to focus on what brings us together. Uniting people has always been at the heart of my work. From day one, as a stylish living and entertaining blogger back in 2007, I made the decision to stay out of politics. Instead, I focused on helping people host parties at home in style. I helped busy individuals figure out “What’s for dinner?”. I showcased the latest modern interior design trends and must-see destinations.
After closing At Home with Kim Vallée, I felt the need to be more open about the causes I support: gender equality, women in STEM, sustainability, and building more livable cities. After all, these are the causes I want to champion and help move forward.
But frankly, in a world where social media feeds are filled with often opposing views, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed or discouraged—or to retreat into an echo chamber. Neither approach is ideal.
In our bustling lives, it’s also easy to overlook the simple yet profound elements that knit us together. I believe we could all benefit from having more joyful and meaningful conversations right now. This is why I refreshed the editorial of my blog into a space to explore, embrace, and amplify what unites us.
The Joy of Togetherness
Last week, I had three days in a row where I dined with friends. The conversations were varied. It felt great to connect with different groups of people. Some new, some that I hadn’t seen in a while.
There’s something special about spending time with friends and family, whether it’s a casual lunch, a celebratory dinner, or a cozy game night. These moments remind us of the joy and connection that enrich our lives.
Supporting Local and Independent Businesses
We like to say that local and small businesses are the backbone of our economy. Beyond that, these businesses make neighbourhoods unique. Shopping local isn’t just about buying products and services; it’s about investing in the stories, creativity, and resilience of entrepreneurs, artisans, and shop owners.
Engaging in Constructive Conversations
In times of division, open and respectful dialogue is more important than ever. Many topics are too complex for social media. Constructive conversations require reflection; meaning a time to process what we hear and read.
My blog offers you a space to reflect on the ideas I share and, hopefully, to move the conversation forward.
Practical Advice for Happier, Everyday Living
Life is full of challenges, but small, intentional changes can make a big difference. As Feel at Home with Kim Vallee, I’m here to help you enhance your daily life with down-to-earth and useful tips, finds, and solutions. Advice that you can put in practice easily.
Why This Matters To You and Me
My new editorial mission emerges from my experiences as the mother of a teenager, a business woman, and a citizen deeply committed to making a positive difference. I’ve chosen to focus on areas where I can have a direct impact—celebrating the things that unite us and helping us feel happier and more connected.
By focusing on these shared experiences, we not only enhance our own happiness but also contribute to creating a better place to live—one thoughtful step at a time.
Thank you for joining me on this journey. Until next time, have a great day!
