My Three Words for 2014!

Thursday, I wrote about how my plan to capture my year plan with three words. Today, I reveal what they are.

Last year was a year of transition work wise. I had the gut to close At Home with Kim Vallee, the lifestyle blog that became my business. I questioned what I truly want to do for living. I analyzed business opportunities. I looked at where the market is heading. Should I create an agency, launch a startup or simply work as a consultant? I had too many choices. Now that I focus on consulting and training, I’m back into the game. I feel stronger and more confident about my choice.

This year is definitely about actions. It is about making things happen. My three words for 2014 are:

Connections

It might seem strange to see connections as one of my three words since making connections between people, ideas and processes is the hearth of what I do every day.  The reason I chose this word is to remind me that making connections is the key to achieve success and happiness. After all, awesomeness emerges from meaningful connections.

From a business perspective, connections are key not only to make business deals but more importantly, to build an edge and to stay ahead of the curve. You need to link ideas and concepts to discover where things are heading, to forecast the impacts of technical and behavioural changes, to identify a trend from the fads, to understand why people care about something, to develop new opportunities, and much more.

Fit

Last year, I reinvented my business by taking into account the lifestyle I want to have now and in the future. I worked hard to imagine a business that fits my talents, the type of clients with whom I enjoy working with, the market opportunities and my preferences as a business owner, an individual and a mom. As I make it happen, I want to preserve my initial intent. This is why making sure that all my decisions, my clients, my activities and the people I deal with are the right fit for what I want to do for a living tops my list.

Drive

Initially, I selected Act. It was a wink to my habit of thinking too much. But act seems like a weak term for my purpose. It lacks the level of passion, the motivation and the fact that I am in control of my destiny. I have the power to make it happen. I believe that without drive, entrepreneurs and business owners won’t be able to achieve success and to continue through the ups and downs that will inevitably happen.

Drive also refers to what drive people to like, share, comment, act, re-act and buy things. It goes back to making connections and how it fits into people’s life.

Connections. Fit. Drive are my three words. What three words will guide you in 2014?
